Basmah Chicago Activities
1. Full-Time Hifz and Academic program – BASMAH is an organization that has been working for Rohingya Refugees and others in Bangladesh and around the world since 2017. In 2023, our board decided that BASMAH could focus on refugees inside the USA for education and development. Therefore, in 2024, BASMAH Chicago started work in Chicago for local Rohingya and other Refugee communities.
2. ESL Class – Finding English as a Second Language (ESL) classes for refugees is an important step in helping them integrate into their new communities and improving their job prospects. In 2024, BASMAH Chicago will start an ESL Class for Rohingya and other local refugees in the Chicago area.
3. Citizenship class for refugee families when needed – BASMAH Chicago will start citizenship classes very soon. BASMAH Chicago will prepare the course for citizenship classes with the following topics: U.S. civics, History, English language preparation, and Interview practice for the citizenship test. BASMAH Chicago will start the citizenship classes for Rohingya and other local refugee communities.
4. Food distribution – Food distribution programs for refugee families provide essential resources to help families meet their nutritional needs during resettlement. During the COVID-19 time, BASMAH started charity work inside the USA, we distributed food and hygiene in Florida, New York, and Michigan to the Muslim community. BASMAH Chicago started food distribution program to Rohingya and other local refugee communities in Chicago area.
5. Youth development – BASMAH Chicago will start the youth development program for Rohingya and other local refugee communities in the Chicago area. BASMAH Chicago Youth development programs are designed to support the social, emotional, and academic growth of young people. These programs focus on helping youth build skills, confidence, and positive relationships while preparing them for adulthood.
6. Job assistance for refugee families – Job assistance for refugee families is critical for helping them establish economic stability and integrate into their new communities. BASMAH Chicago strives to provide Rohingya and other local refugee communities with the resources that will help to establish a secure life. We provide several resources and programs specifically designed to help refugees find employment, develop job skills, and connect with local employers.
