The Water Crisis
Water connects every aspect of life. Access to safe water and sanitation can quickly turn problems into potential – empowering people with time for school and work and contributing to improved health for women, children, and families worldwide.
Although The water crisis is a health crisis, nearly 1 million people die each year from water, sanitation, and hygiene-related diseases, which could be reduced with access to safe water or sanitation. Every 2 minutes, a child dies from a water-related illness.
Access to safe water and sanitation contributes to improved health and helps prevent infectious diseases. It means reduced child and maternal mortality rates. It means diminished physical injury from constant lifting and carrying heavy loads of water.
Giving Water is Sadaqah Jariyah
S’ad ibn Ubadah reported:
I said, “O Messenger Of Allah, My mother has died. Shall I give charity on her behalf?” The Prophet said, “Yes.” I said, “Wich charity is the best?”, The Prophet said, “A drink of water.”.
We learn two important things from this hadith; the first is that we are encouraged to give Sadaqah Jariyah on behalf of a deceased loved one, and the second is that the best form of Sadaqah Jariyah we can give is water.
Sadaqah brings us closer to Allah
Sadaqa is a charity given voluntarily in order to please God. Sadaqa also describes a voluntary charitable act towards others, whether through generosity, love, compassion, or faith.
These acts are not necessarily physical or monetary. Charity comes in many forms, and one of them is long-term charity.
Long-term charities are one of the best charities that bring us close to Allah, and it also brings stability to society and tranquility to the poor and needy.
Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said: “The best charity is giving water to drink,”
so giving water is a great charitable act that brings us closer to Allah (SWT).
Sadaqah Saves Lives
Water is a basic necessity of life, and it may seem inconceivable to imagine living without it. But the stark reality is that many people around the world do. Freshwater availability for drinking and sanitation poses an urgent and challenging problem, particularly in many developing countries.
Cleaner water and better hygienic practices reduce the incidence of waterborne diseases and more productive society.
The Best Charity giving water
One of the best alms that can be given is drinking water because water is one of the essentials of life that can never be dispensed with.
And the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) recommended it in his saying: (The best charity is water for drinking) [Ahmad] and it was the most generous charity.
Ultimate Sadaqah Jariyah
Allah said in Quran, “ We created from water every living thing.”.
As we said before, water is the basis of life, and it is the only thing that guarantees the continuity of life.
